Myopic Visions

A small body of large scale works produced while living abroad, which culminated in acceptance to the Capetown Month of Photography festival, SA, 2002.

Catalog statement

As a child I was fascinated with biology and technology, the products of nature and man. The questioning of my place and purpose
within these realms is the driving force behind my creative pursuits. My work reflects a captivation with the lens-formed image and
the tension between that image on the two dimensional plane and how it exists in a three dimensional world.
Five years ago I moved to central Italy. This new landscape, with dramatic light and soft pastel colours, inspired a reawakening to
experience the landscape through the lens-formed image. These images are produced without looking through the viewfinder thus
these worlds are felt rather than framed, and rely on my intuitive response to the landscape without reference from the eye. This
exploration mimics my own nearsighted childhood, my childhood myopia.
